Siloam Pool

The Pool of Siloam was a real place. Located on the southern edge of the City of David, close to the Jerusalem Temple Mount, it was fed by the springs of the Gihon River and brought fresh water into Jerusalem. Excavations in 2004 uncovered the site. There is some argument over whether the pool was built during the rule of Hezekiah or earlier. It is thought to have been a ritual bathing site; some suggest that it was from this pool that the Temple priests gathered the water that was poured over the altar at the end of the Feast of Tabernacles.

It was to the Pool of Siloam that Jesus sent the man born blind; here the miracle of sight caused many to believe and angered those already suspicious of Jesus, the one sent by God to bring salvation to the world.

I believe that we each have a Pool of Siloam in our lives – a place where God’s love has touched us and made us whole. A place where the darkness of our lives is washed away by light. A place where we can return again and again to find healing and strength. And, like the Man Born Blind who told his story three different times, we need to tell our stories until we, too, understand the great miracle of Christ touching us and showing us the love of the Father.

From darkness to light through the Living Water, what is the story of your Pool of Siloam?
