Finding the Lost
Funny how something so important can fall by the wayside. A few days turns into a few weeks, turns into months. You don’t mean for it to happen, it just does. Something that was life-giving takes a backseat. The sad part is, you didn’t even realize how much it meant to you.
Why did you let it fall away? Can you pick up where you left off? Does it still have the same importance? Will it still bring you life? The questions have to be answered, even if that introspection is painful. Sometimes life changes enough that what you let go of really can be left behind. And it’s true that you can get busy with other, important things. But if it nags at you, even in a gentle way, maybe it is worth holding on to.
So you take the first step, even a small one. You reach deep inside your heart and re-member that piece of yourself that was important once. You hold it up to the mirror; it looks a little different, but it’s still you. Maybe it grew a little while you forgot about it, changing into a better piece of you. Maybe what you see now is more beautiful, more meaningful, more true.
If this lost thing is still life-giving, reach out and grab it once again. Hold it and treasure it and be surprised by it. It doesn’t care that you lost it for a little while; it’s just happy to be found. No recriminations. No guilt. Just happiness that this piece of your life is beating again.
Dear Donna,
I feel you have insight on my life. Every time I read your post – something has happened in the last day that you speak to it..
Thank you for your continued inspiration. You are wise beyond years.
Gratefully,
Mary Beth
